Rewrites

The story was rewritten a few times before becoming what it is today. The original concept was just landing on the moon research station and encountering the shadows. It was all just a basic outline of character versus enemy. One of the drafts included the character being born from an artificial womb in the future due to identity politics exploding and birth rates plummeting. Social media was outlawed due to how toxic it had become, and the new "synthetics" were born. Using the human genome project synthetics would no longer have the limitations and disease of the old humans. A serum was created to extend the lives of old humans, but it was not largely adopted only due to how unhappy the old ones felt. When Kid arrived on the station for the first time he met "Boss" the last real woman. Riley the engineer explains the backstory of how synthetics were developed as the next evolution in humanity. They are technically 100% human DNA however it is manipulated by an algorithm to create the perfect human who is neither male nor female and not prone to disease. The original game concept also had a mechanic where the suit could get damaged leading to the shadow taking hold and there would be replacements throughout the game. There was also an energy drink that would raise concentration and reduce anxiety. In another rewrite a worldwide plague washed over humanity and the survivors banded together to make a new society. Corporations came along and guided the survivors into huge megacities. The survivors grew brand loyalty and eventually stopped reproducing. The corporations desperate to hold onto profits generated the synthetic humans as the perfect worker. Someone who never complained or got sick. This was easy since they were able to control how the synthetics behaved due to the education camps they were raised in.

More to the story

My original concept for the game was being designed in 2011 using the RPG Maker XP game engine. It didn't do everything I wanted for the story, so I shelved the idea for a few years. I had played lots of visual novels and really enjoyed the things that can be done using them, so I decided to adapt my story to one in that format. I paid for Visual Novel Studio, but the resources were not very helpful. Then I found Ren'Py, the scripting was easy, and it seemed to be exactly what I wanted to use.  The style is still in an older graphic style similar to old point and click games from the early Mac and Windows days.

Lunar Base 49

Welcome to my blog about my upcoming game Lunar Base 49. The concept for the game revolves around a new worker in a satellite outside the moon. The character "Kid" takes a shuttle to the surface of the moon at Research Station 49. When Kid arrives, there is no one there but the alarms are going off. Where did everyone go? What happened to everyone? Will you be up to the challenge of finding out?
